06-21-2010: Westword Music Showcase and Gay Pride weekend

So this is my first post to many posts of my travels and experiences.
Great weekend! Flew into Denver Saturday morning and instead of calling in for a ride from friends, I decided to try out the public transportation. It was way easy to figure out and took me all the way to where i needed to go in downtown. Once i got off the bus into downtown, the whole city was just flooded with people, music, and vendors. Thought it was for the Westword Music showcase, but it turned out it was for the Gay Pride weekend that the city was celebrating.

Besides the Gay Pride parade, the Westword Music Showcase was also happening in downtown Denver. From 12pm till 2am, there was music going on everywhere. 15 stages catering to different styles of music from jazz, hip hop, indie, alternative, electro etc. The headliners of the music showcase were Ghostland Observatory, Dirty Projectors, Neon Indian, and Boombox. The best thing was it only cost $9.33. It was crazy and it blew my mind how the whole city was just so alive from this event. It seemed like the city was on vacation and that they allowed the young adults take it over for the weekend. It was pretty much one giant party. People were just roaming the streets and having a good time all over the place till the late hours of the night. Denver's finest were definitely out and about this weekend and it was amazing how the city was capable of putting together event.

This was a great experience to be a part of and thank you to all my beautiful friends who i got to experience this with. I look forward to doing this again next year with you kiddos.
